Sunday night, Lanterns told us who the Manhunter is. And Monday, we threw ourselves a party.

Let me be accurate about that, because I knew it. I stood right here and I took the lap. I told you I would be insufferable about it for a week and I meant it, so I am not going to stand here now and pretend the celebration was somebody else’s idea.

Out there it has been five straight days of too obvious, red herring, cheat, they telegraphed it. That one is still going.

So Monday afternoon I went back and read my comments, and I figured I was walking into more of the party.

I was not.

“Zoe being a Manhunter is a red herring and it’s actually Lianna the Guardian. Guardian quotes in Lianna’s introduction. She walks in with a giant diamond, aka crystallized carbon.”

3:31 on a Monday afternoon. He took the answer, put it in his pocket, and went looking for the next door. By Monday night there were dozens of you in there doing the same thing.

You never bought Zoe as the whole answer. You never did. And I have got receipts on that going back two weeks, including a ballot where you voted one way and then argued the other.

Let’s open the file.

The Order He Already Refused

Two Fridays ago I put something on the record. Somewhere this season, John Stewart is going to refuse an order for the first time in his life. Which order, from who, and what does it cost him?

You answered by the hundreds.

Guy Gardner has the ring because John refused to replace Hal. Taip came at it from the other side: the heel turn is John backing what the ring stands for even if it costs him the ring. Nim said he refuses the order and refuses the ring. Gabe said the order does not even come from a Guardian, it comes from his mother, and I have been chewing on that one all week.

Then the episode aired and I watched a whole lot of people go, well, it did not happen yet.

The Guardian looks at him and tells him to take the ring off Hal Jordan. That is an order. She says it like one and he hears it like one. Then Hal, that same night, in the middle of the worst hour of his life, holds the ring out and offers it to him. John does not take it.

And people keep telling me that is not a refusal because he never said the word no.

Look at who we are talking about. This is somebody who has never once in his life been allowed to object out loud. His whole childhood was built to take that part of him out. So it does not show up as a speech. It shows up as the thing he has been doing since he was five years old, which is holding something back and letting you think you got all of it.

Withholding is the one form of refusal an obedient man already knows, because he has been doing it his whole life. Every single time he swallowed something.

He did not take the ring. He did not report Zoe. And when Hal did the math in that car and asked him why he did not say anything, the answer is simpler than strategy. He is a man who was never handed a way to say no, using the only one he has got.

Everybody was watching for a scene. It came as silence.

One of Them Is Lying and It Is Not the Ring

Look at what Lianna actually tells him. She stands right there and says Hal’s reports have him down as not creative, that he cannot wield the power the way it needs to be wielded.

She is quoting Hal Jordan’s own words back at the man she is trying to turn against Hal Jordan.

I will believe for a second that Hal files reports. He went to Sinestro for information on the Manhunter instead of going to the Guardians. Hal Jordan is not reporting to anybody.

This is a man who, when he needed to know how to find a Manhunter, flew to a prison planet and asked the guy locked up in there for killing a Guardian. That is who he trusts with information. Not them. He has not been checking in.

And the show made a joke out of it. Cody Yarbor clocked that the joke is the evidence:

“Power ring, huh, that’s weird. It looks like Hal hasn’t checked in in a long time. Guardians: Hal’s been checking in with us regularly and you won’t believe what he has to say about you. That totally sounds legit.”

227 likes. He wrote it as a bit, and then the evidence caught up with the joke.

The ring says Hal has not reported. The Guardian says Hal has reported. Both of those were on screen inside the same hour. One of them is a lie, and it is not the ring.

So the order John refused was manufactured out of a lie by the person giving it. He made the first correct call of his entire life with no information, on instinct, which is the exact thing Hal has been trying to beat into him for four weeks.

Four Hours Later You Were Building a Case Against a Guardian

Inside four hours of that episode ending, this comment section quit talking about Zoe and started building a case against a Guardian. Nobody told you to. I said we do not know whose side Zoe is on, and I left it there.

You went past me.

Jonio: she has the same technology as the slaughterhouse and she has been grooming one family for thirty years. Stegman: Sinestro is in a prison for killing a Guardian, so what if the Guardians are already infiltrated, and what if that is what got Abin Sur killed. Jay Chacho: Manhunters shapeshift, so where is the rule that says there is only one of her.

And Nichi for Speedy went after the color grade and asked why there is that much yellow in a show that took the green out of the title. That one I love.

That is a room full of people who got handed the answer and immediately asked who was holding it.

The Hand and the Tear

Go back to chapter one, the very end, 2026. John Stewart is standing over Hal Jordan’s body. The camera gives you the tear running down his face. And right before that, he checks. He looks down at the hand to see if the ring is on it.

No ring. Hal Jordan has worn that ring for forty years at that point. There is nothing on that hand.

I do not think that is his partner on the ground. I am telling you right now, I do not. He is standing over somebody else, and the tear says he already knows it.

I did not get there first. I got there Tuesday, and by then one of you had written the other half of it on Monday afternoon, twenty seven minutes after my video went up:

“I think the Hal who’s dead in episode one is Zoe. That was a man looking at the corpse of someone he loved.”

67 likes. He got there from the tear. I got there from the hand. Neither one of us had the other piece, and both of us were staring at the same shot.

And it was not just him. Two more of you landed on it that same week, separately. Real Robad had it Tuesday night. Aces had it Thursday. Three people, no coordination, all staring at the same eleven seconds of television.

This is also the first time I am putting names from over there up on this screen, so pay attention, because that rule may have just changed. If you are in the replies, you are in this room, and if you call something, you get named on the wall. Same as anybody.

The Correction I Needed

Last Friday somebody told me I had been unfair to Hal Jordan, and they were right.

The read on Hal all season is that he is scared of losing the ring and pushes John around to protect his own job. That is the read I have been closest to.

Jason Menddees sent me a better one. Hal is not afraid of losing the ring. He is worried about what the heads of a system are trying to do, and he thinks he might be the only thing protecting his planet.

Five likes on a Friday night, and it is better than anything I have said about Hal all season. It also holds up without the conspiracy attached to it.

Now watch how the man teaches. He never explains. He says fly, and then he walks off. Zero Chaotics caught what he is doing, and it is the opposite of how John got trained at that school, where a Guardian explained it down to the cog and John executed it perfectly. Hal will not give him the cog. Hal is trying to get the man to produce something nobody told him to produce.

Which brings me back to the bird.

Hal tells him to fly. John makes a bird. Hal asks him what it is, and John says it is just a bird.

That bird is his mother’s lie, the one she told him about the birds watching him. The ring reached in and pulled it out of him, because the ring takes whatever is actually in there. So John Stewart looks at the first true thing his own will has ever made, and he says it is nothing.

That is the first time John Stewart lies to the ring.

Being Right on Monday

Being a know-it-all does not mean being right on Sunday. Anybody can be right on Sunday. A whole platform full of people were right on Sunday and they got it off a headline.

It means being right on Monday, when the easy answer is sitting right there and you have to decide whether you are taking it.

I took it. I threw the party. I am not going to lie about that.

You did not. And I watched you not take it in real time.

They gave you the Manhunter with four episodes still to run. Ask yourself what they are saying.

The Nation’s Ballot

Monday I gave Lanterns Episode 4 a 10, the first one I had handed out in a long time. I said my piece about why, and I told you the ballot was going up with your number next to mine.

The Know-It-All Nation gave Episode 4 a 9.5 out of 10.

Half a point under me on the week, and I lost my mind on camera. Noted. I want the case from whoever found something to take off, because I went looking and I could not. The ballot also opened late, and that one is on me.

If you are a member, your ballot is open right now.

What Sunday Is Carrying

Episode 5 is Sunday and I am back on Monday with it, and from what is in that promo we are going somewhere. The town gets a warning and it mobilizes, and watch who they are protecting when it does. Zoe is up and walking. Hal is firing construct cannons at a moving vehicle. Hal and John come to blows on screen. There is a drop of red going toward somebody’s eye, and a lot of people are reading that one particular way. I am not saying the words yet.

Somewhere in the middle of all that, John Stewart walks out of the wreckage in hospital scrubs, carrying the lantern, wearing the ring. Scrubs out of a hospital that never had a patient in it.

And here is the one I asked Monday that almost nobody touched. John picked up that phone knowing that was the wrong man, and he called it in anyway. So is he feeding an innocent man to an alien death squad to buy Zoe one more day? Or is there something waiting for him in that cafe?

We do not know. That is the question.

Elijah Kiona, Andy D, Chumchi, Cody Yarbor, Oddly Magic of Brandy, Against Me, Jason Menddees, Johnny Aio, Stemmith, Jay Chacho, Trouble Turtle, Real Robad, Aces, and every one of you on the wall today: thank you. You got handed the answer and you went looking for the next question, which is the entire job.

Your turn. Was John’s silence in that car a refusal, or are you still waiting for him to say the word out loud? And who else thinks the body in those bleachers is not Hal Jordan? The conversation lives in the comments on the video above.
