Your ever insightful Mr. Know-It-All is here to unravel the divine mischief of yesteryear as we embark on a temporal journey back to Loki Season 1. Ah, the memories. If you stick around and haven’t seen Loki Season 1 yet, spoilers. Today is about recapping the whirlwind adventures of our favorite God of Mischief before Season 2 hits your screen.

Episode 1: Glorious Purpose

Our tale of time kicks off with a bang as Loki, freshly escaped from the events of Avengers: Endgame, finds himself swiftly apprehended by the Time Variance Authority, or TVA, for his timeline tomfoolery. It’s a rough start for our charming rogue, being hurled into a realm where his godly powers are but mere illusions.

As Loki stumbles through the Kafkaesque halls of the TVA, he’s bombarded with a reality check about the Sacred Timeline and his designation as a variant. Oh, and who could ever forget that whimsical yet eerie animated orientation from Miss Minutes herself? It’s bureaucracy with a cosmic twist.

Amidst the mind-bending exposition, we’re treated to a heart-tugging scene where Loki is confronted with the harsh realities of his actions and his fate, which in a peculiar way opens a door to redemption. It’s a glimpse into the heart beneath the horned helmet. Glorious Purpose was not only a doorway to a realm of cosmic bureaucracy but also a portal into the complexities and the uncharted emotional territories of Loki’s character.

Episode 2: The Variant

The title, I think, kind of says it all. This episode spirals into a manhunt, or should we say god hunt, as Loki and Agent Mobius form a not so cozy alliance to track down the rogue variant wreaking chronological havoc. It’s a mind-bending game of cat and mouse with a sprinkle of Loki’s wily antics.

Our duo delves into the annals of time, scouring through historical events to pinpoint the variant’s pattern. The Renaissance fair shenanigans not only spotlight the danger posed by the variant but also the quirky humor that ensues in the face of temporal terror.

The climax crescendos with a confrontation between Loki and the enigmatic variant, who reveals herself as Lady Loki, shattering our God of Mischief’s ego and, quite literally, the Sacred Timeline. The jaw-dropping finale sets the stage for a multiversal mayhem that leaves us yearning for more. The Variant not only revs up the narrative engine but also throws in a curveball that challenges Loki and sets the stage for a temporal adventure that’s about as wild as Loki’s imagination.

Episode 3: Lamentis

In Lamentis, our titular God of Mischief finds himself in dire straits alongside Lady Loki, or Sylvie, on a moon that’s literally crashing and burning. The ticking time bomb scenario of Lamentis and its impending doom adds a layer of urgency to their already chaotic interaction.

Despite their clashing agendas, Loki and Sylvie are forced to form a shaky alliance to find a way off the dying moon. Through snarky banter and reluctant teamwork, they navigate the Lamentian landscape, giving us a blend of action, humor and a sprinkle of existential dread.

Amidst the cosmic chaos, we delve deeper into the psyche of both Lokis. The train scene is a gem, shedding light on their loneliness, identity and the facade of villainy. It’s a moment of vulnerability that’s as rare as a calm day in the life of Loki.

Lamentis is a galactic ride that not only propels the storyline into a whirlpool of uncertainties but also explores the emotional cosmos of our characters. It’s a beautiful disaster that leaves a lasting imprint on the narrative and the characters, shaping the chaos yet to come. Beautiful disaster. If that doesn’t describe Loki, I don’t know what does.

Episode 4: The Nexus Event

The elusive bond between Loki and Mobius faces the ultimate test as suspicions and betrayals come to the forefront. Our mischievous protagonist finds himself caught in the whirlwind of the TVA’s dark secrets and the haunting reality of being a variant.

Amidst the emotional turmoil, the facade of the Time-Keepers starts to crumble, revealing the eerie machinations that govern the Sacred Timeline. It’s a dive into the murky waters of the TVA’s true nature, shaking the foundations of what Loki and we thought we knew.

The episode hits a nerve-racking climax with the pruning of, let’s say, key characters, and it leaves the audience gasping. The existential threat of erasure adds a grave undertone to the whimsical adventures, changing the stakes and the game altogether.

The Nexus Event is a roller coaster of emotions, revelations and harrowing actions that sets a darker tone for the narrative. It’s the point of no return, where the whimsical journey morphs into a quest for truth with a heavy price to pay.

Episode 5: Journey into Mystery

For those of you who are unaware, Journey into Mystery is actually the book that launched the Mighty Thor, as well as showed us our very first glimpse at Loki in the very beginning.

So in a bizarre yet entertaining twist, our Loki finds himself amidst an eccentric ensemble of Loki variants, from Classic Loki to Kid Loki, even an Alligator Loki. It’s a whimsical exploration of identity amidst the backdrop of a surreal and perilous Void.

The ominous presence of Alioth, the monstrous cloud entity that devours matter and time, amps up the stakes. Our Loki’s quest for survival morphs into a daring plan to confront the beast, showcasing courage and camaraderie among the Lokis. Who’d have thought?

The heroic sacrifice of Classic Loki, conjuring a majestic Asgard, epitomizes the theme of glorious purpose. It’s a stirring moment that resonates with our Loki, pushing him beyond his self-centric tendencies and opening a gateway to the unknown.

Journey into Mystery is a kaleidoscopic ride through the psyche of Loki, veiled in humor, heart and heroic feats. It’s a penultimate chapter that sets the stage for a mind-bending, heart-throbbing finale, leaving us on the edge of temporal chaos.

Episode 6: For All Time. Always.

The veil lifts, unveiling the enigmatic He Who Remains, a version of Kang the Conqueror for those of you playing at home, as the architect of the Sacred Timeline. His paradoxical realm of control, and the offer to Loki and Sylvie to take over his mantle, adds a cosmic conundrum to the narrative.

The ideological rift between Loki and Sylvie hits a crescendo as they grapple with the monumental decision at hand. It’s a heart-wrenching battle of trust and betrayal, embodying the emotional turmoil and the diverging paths of our Loki duo.

Sylvie’s final act of defiance, slaying He Who Remains, fractures the Sacred Timeline into a multiversal maelstrom. It’s a cataclysmic climax that not only leaves the fate of the Multiverse hanging in the balance but also catapults Loki into a TVA that’s forgotten him.

For All Time. Always. is a narrative whirlpool that challenges the essence of free will, destiny and the unyielding quest for truth. The dramatic crescendo sets the cosmic stage for a multiversal saga, leaving us with a Loki whose purpose has transcended from mere mischief to a quest for multiversal order.

From Mischief to Something More

The enigmatic journey from a mischievous Asgardian to a lovelorn hero: Loki’s metamorphosis was nothing short of glorious. With Season 2 on the horizon, the time streams are buzzing with theories and anticipation. What new chaos will our lovable rogue entangle us in? Well, we’re about to find out.

The Verdict

Loki Season 1 is a 9.5 out of 10 on the Know-It-All Index.

I believe, frankly, the first season was a good, solid nine and a half. It hit on all cylinders. I think it literally outlined so many things that drove us properly into the Multiverse, regardless of whether what came after supported it or not. In the end, this was a character we knew and loved who was not only continued but elevated to heights that he himself would be proud of.
