What’s up my know-it-alls! It’s time for another Know-It-All Files, and this one’s a little bit special. We’re talking Star Wars, and I think the very first thing you’re going to say is, but you’re in a Star Trek uniform. Wait, there’s more.
Who would win: the entire Star Trek universe or the entire Star Wars canon universe?
This is a fun question. I love a little crossover type stuff, especially because it’s a really good, fun thought game. I think they’re saying canon because if you go into the books and the different expanded stuff, you get really complicated. This particular thread on Quora was really in depth, and there was a lot of interesting debate back and forth. It’s summarized in one of the last answers really well, but I do have my own personal thoughts. The original Quora question and its thread are linked in the description of the video. Check out the thread. You’re going to really enjoy it, I think.
Warp, Hyperdrive, and Why It’s Irrelevant
One of the things I think you have to do is separate out certain pieces of this thing. There’s people who want to get into all the complications about the difference between warp and hyperdrive and whether one’s faster than the other. Remember, in Star Trek we’ve only discovered, or explored, maybe a third of the known galaxy. In Star Wars, in that galaxy, which remember is another galaxy entirely, they are very much crossing back and forth. So hyperspace is already faster.
But that’s irrelevant.
The Borg Only Need One Star Destroyer
When you start to add up the number of omnipotent or near omnipotent alien species and different things like that, I mean, Q, for one. You’ve got Q, period. Between Q, the Borg, heck, Species 10-C, the alien race from Discovery that was just found, there’s a lot of room for creatures who would immediately step in.
So for instance, I’m not even going to talk about the Federation. The Borg would wipe out the Star Wars universe entirely. All they’d have to do is assimilate one Star Destroyer, and the next thing you know, poof, they’ve now got hyperspeed technology and they’re just traipsing back and forth, taking out the Outer Rim and everything else. It’d be very fast to get assimilated.
Q, likewise, can just kind of snap his fingers, and that’s it.
Taking Q Off the Table
Now, let’s play this thought exercise for just a second. You could take Q out of the equation, because it’s almost like the Infinity Gauntlet in the comic books: it only works in your native universe. So let’s say Q can’t actually cross into alternate universes. He can play within the realm of the spatial dimensions and things like that here, but the minute you hit that divide between actual universes, i.e. the multiverse, I think he can’t cross through it, because his power is based in this universe.
So let’s take Q off the table for just a second and go pound for pound.
I believe Federation ships are more agile. I believe phaser technology is more powerful. I believe our shield technology is stronger. I say “our” because I’m in a Star Trek uniform at the moment.
What About the Force?
Look, man. Order 66 nullified the Force, in my opinion. When a whole bunch of soldiers can just turn around on the people who are supposed to have it, and it’s like, what was that? Order 66, and you’re dead? I’m kind of no longer impressed by the idea of, well, Darth Vader can reach up and grab a starship, or Rey in The Rise of Skywalker pulls the starship out of the sky. It was a glorified transport ship, let’s be real.
I know there’s some other out of canon things, but that’s one of the reasons why they put “canon” in the question.
The Ruling
In a ground war, the Star Wars universe wins. Head to head, overall, Star Trek can dominate in a lot of ways. And I’m not saying that because I’m wearing the uniform. The Star Trek universe would absolutely win, for various and sundry reasons.
Well, there you go, now you know, and if knowing is half the battle, you’re halfway to being a know-it-all yourself.
Was I right? I don’t know. I really don’t ever think there’s a right or wrong answer on these. A lot of them are speculative, and we’re just kind of talking through it, except of course for the factual questions.
I’m down for hearing your arguments, and I’d love to continue this discussion. Who wins, the entire Star Trek universe or the entire Star Wars canon universe? Let’s debate it in the comments on the video above. Never forget, everyone loves a know-it-all!
