The king of Atlantis has finally decided to grace us with his presence. The new trailer for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom has dropped, and I didn’t know what to expect from this movie. I had no clue. I’m covering it because, frankly, that’s what we do on this channel. I’m with you, though.

So I watched it, and I don’t know what I just watched.

The Same Internet You’re On

Like a lot of you, I’m on the same internet too, and I’ve heard nothing but horror stories about the test screenings for this movie. We know the DCEU is pretty much on its way out, and Aquaman is literally the last vestiges of that.

Despite whatever anybody else may think, I loved Blue Beetle. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the first Aquaman movie. It felt like a VFX nightmare, and it really felt a little bit all over the road.

This one, I don’t know. As sequels go, that was a good trailer. I’m going to watch it again. I find myself strangely excited about the Aquaman movie, which feels weird. I don’t know why that’s happening.

Patrick Wilson Looks More Like Aquaman Than Aquaman

Temuera Morrison’s obviously back. Patrick Wilson looks utterly amazing. I don’t know that I’ve seen him look as cool.

Also, is it just me? There’s this one shot where they back up and it’s him, and he’s standing there with the belt on, the same belt Momoa has got on, which is the Atlantis belt. He looks more like classic comic book Aquaman than Momoa does.

I think I actually said that out loud.

A Whole Lot of the Same

I know DC has lost an awful lot of real estate when it comes to fan goodwill. I think we’re all just waiting for something new to come in.

This may suffer from the same problem Blue Beetle suffered from, which is that it looks like it might be a whole lot of the same. Now, I like what I saw. So even if it’s a whole lot of the same, meaning the same kind of movie stuff we’ve gotten, that’s what comic books are. I think we’re going to enter a phase where we start to notice that the fans who come are the hardcore comic book fans.

We’ll see.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this whole thing and what you think of the trailer. The conversation lives in the comments on the video above.
