Dragon Ball Daima just put a fusion bug on the shelf of a demon teahouse, and it’s the most important thing in the episode. The episode is titled “Chatty.” I don’t know why it’s called that, and I don’t care, because I’ve got a brand new fusion to think about.
I watched this one with my co-host and good buddy Senpai Know-It-All, who streams on Twitch and is almost affiliated. I’d absolutely love to help get him there. And to all 2,000 of you who subscribed over the last two weeks: hi, welcome to the channel. It means the world to me that you enjoy these shows, and this is one we’re super excited about.
There’s a Fusion One
The guys end up in a literal demon teahouse, and it’s shaped like a teapot. It really is. It’s good to know they have marketing in hell. Inside, they’re selling little bugs. One of them literally heals you like a senzu bean. Another one gives you smooth skin. And then there’s the fusion one.
Senpai had walked in the door saying he’d heard something was hinting at a new fusion. As soon as we saw the bug, that was it. Yep, there it is.
I can’t wait. I want Vegeta and them to hurry up and get there, because I want to see who fuses with who. Even if it’s the same two characters, it would technically be a brand new fusion. It won’t be Vegito and it won’t be Gogeta, so what do they call it? Maybe one of the unused names people have come up with on their own. It all comes back to me talking about Dragon Ball Heroes, because I love seeing things we’ve never seen before. One of the games fuses Gohan and Trunks, and that’s a lot of people’s favorite fusion. I think we’re going to get something like that.
But it could be with Glorio, or somebody else in the party. I never thought about that until we were talking it through. And the little picture showed multiple people, so what if it’s a three-way fusion? Three people combined, names stacked up, all three talking at the same time. Imagine Vegeta in there. He’d be so pissed. “Enough of you idiots, I can only handle one.”
Then we got to wondering how you unfuse. Do they split back into three people when the bug gets digested? Somebody goes to the bathroom and all of a sudden, oh, my bad.
Why Come We Don’t Fly Everywhere
The episode starts with the ship stolen from last time. The guys come out, they’re shocked, and so they walk. And while they’re walking Goku asks a brilliant question: why don’t we just fly everywhere? Come to find out the air is heavier down here and it would exhaust them. That felt a little on the nose, but I’m fine with it. I’m down. It fits and it makes sense.
They do have to fly over one ravine with a dark, deathly sea in it, and they get attacked by a thing. When I say a thing, that’s not me being lazy. It looks like a fish and a plant at the same time. A demon fish plant thing with wings. Luckily Glorio can apparently fly too, and he’s pretty darn fast. Nobody’s throwing energy balls yet, but you can hear him dash through the air, and I love that sound. It’s like he’s sidestepping.
The Sky Seed
Getting out of the teahouse means doing the whole transaction again. Eight thousand, from an old geezer who can’t hear a thing, so his wife has to yell at him just so he can hear. You know who you are.
What they buy is a sky seed. It reminded me a lot of the pink pole from the old days, the one that got thrown and then jumped on. With this one you climb on and rip the stem off, and it sends you absolutely flying. I thought it was cool to see.
At the very end Glorio tells them they’re headed straight for the dark, so they have to jump off, and they start spinning. As soon as they started spinning I said, you have a five percent chance to make it. Goku’s probably dizzy and about to throw up somewhere. Somehow they all manage to fly, and they make it to the other side.
Three Years Off Your Life Per Coin
When they get to the town, you find out Gomah’s wasted no time. He’s ahead of everything. Demon police are going around charging people three gold coins in taxes, or three years off their life per coin. They’re literally giving up their souls.
One old man walks up and says he has no coins, give him some time and he’ll get it. He’s crying out that he’ll die if they take the years off his life. Thank God he didn’t get the nine years off. They grab him and force him down, Goku’s about to step in, and that’s when the stranger shows up. She throws a homemade bomb, it deflates, and they chase her.
Then Goku starts wrecking shop, and it’s one of the better fights so far. He’s using the pole the way he used to, actually fighting with it. Right on, dude. I’ll say this, though: I felt very bad for that last guy. Bro, that was a low blow. Literally a low blow. You could see the devastation on his face when he fell backwards.
They get away from the trouble, they’re headed down the road, she shows up and reveals herself, and that’s where we cut.
Senpai’s Three Wishes Question
Goku’s committed to the mission now: go get the demon Dragon Balls. When he asks how far away the first one is, the answer is the opposite side, a long, long way back the way they came. They commit anyway. The thinking is that they can wish Dende back, which is why they’re there to begin with, and then go home and fix the rest with the regular Earth balls. Which is really smart.
Then Senpai stopped me. You get three wishes, right? So why not wish yourself back to normal, wish Dende back, and wish Gomah bye-bye?
It’s a great question. I think it should be that. We’ll probably find out.
Dragon Ball GT Done Right
A lot of this is making me think of Dragon Ball GT, and it feels like the right kind. This is like Dragon Ball GT done right, if there’s such a thing.
It’s going to be shorter than Z, because this is an anniversary series. It’s designed to remind us of what came before and to point toward some things we already know are coming. I like that about it.
I keep wondering if we’re going to get some kind of new transformation out of this. Senpai keeps saying the same thing: just one. Maybe it only works here in the demon realm, which would justify why we never see it again.
The Verdict
Dragon Ball Daima’s “Chatty” got two numbers on the Know-It-All Index: a 9.5 and a 9. One of us said 9.5. The other said, “I don’t know if it’s a 9.5, but it’s definitely a nine for me.” I’m letting both stand.
This one actually progressed the story. It moved us forward, it gave us more info, we got to meet a new character, and Goku’s committed to a mission. I’m enjoying where they’re going with this, and I can’t wait to see what they do with that bug.
Your turn. Did you enjoy the episode, who do you think ends up fusing, and can you answer Senpai’s three wishes question? The conversation lives in the comments on the video above.
