It’s Day 2 of our 25 Days of Christmas, and it’s Rise of the Guardians, a movie where it’s like all the holidays became superheroes. I for one am here for it.

This is the one that brings together the legends of our childhood in a spectacular way, and I love this movie so much, to my core.

Holiday Legends Like Never Before

Rise of the Guardians, directed by Peter Ramsey, is an animated adventure that reimagines holiday legends like never before. The film features an ensemble of mythical characters, including a fierce and caring Santa Claus voiced by Alec Baldwin and a silent but expressive Sandman.

The story centers around Jack Frost, voiced by Chris Pine, a playful and mischievous spirit struggling with his identity and purpose. When the villainous Pitch Black, voiced by Jude Law, threatens to engulf the world in fear and darkness, Jack joins forces with the Guardians to protect the innocence of children around the world.

This visually stunning film combines elements of various cultural myths and holiday lore, creating a rich tapestry that appeals to both children and adults. Its themes of belief, bravery and the power of wonder make it a pretty uplifting and enchanting holiday film.

Everything That Christmas Could Be

At the time when I was first introduced to this, I was really doing a lot of CGI work in my other life. I was working on animating characters similar to this, and working a lot with those kinds of things. This movie opened up my mind and brought to the forefront of my imagination everything that Christmas could be.

It was actually the very first time I ever really thought through the idea of reimagining a lot of the characters we know as mythical characters. Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, all those different aspects. And I loved the idea that they get brought together by the Man in the Moon in order to protect children.

I thought that was so great, especially because the children’s belief in things like hope, caring and whatnot scares away the boogeyman. Amazing. It’s very, very cool.

There you go. Now you know. And if knowing is half the battle, you’re halfway to being a know-it-all yourself.

The Verdict

Rise of the Guardians earns an 8.5 out of 10 on the Know-It-All Index, for its imaginative storytelling, captivating animation and the heartfelt message at its core.

This is such a heartfelt, feel-good movie.
