Violent Night takes the Christmas genre and flips it on its head. Day 5 of our 25 Days of Christmas is a wild turn, so brace yourself for a Christmas movie that’s as unconventional as it gets.
It delivers an adrenaline-fueled, action-packed holiday experience, and it’s a breath of fresh air for anybody craving something different from the usual festive fare.
The film revolves around a Santa Claus like none other, portrayed with gritty charisma. It’s a far cry from the jolly old St. Nick we’re used to. When a group of mercenaries attack a wealthy family’s home on Christmas Eve, they don’t count on Santa being there. What follows is an intense, surprisingly humorous, action-packed battle.
Violent Night combines the spirit of Christmas with a hardcore, Die Hard-esque sensibility, and that blend works surprisingly well. It’s a roller coaster ride of thrills, laughs and holiday cheer, all wrapped in a not so traditional package.
I Bought the Whole Family Tickets the Night Before
I remember learning about this one the night before it was supposed to come out, and I bought tickets immediately. Bought the entire Know-It-All family tickets. We went to go see it in theaters, and man, was it worth seeing.
That movie was so incredible, and it was such a supercharged, invigorating thing to sit through. It blew me away. Blew me away all day long.
I saw it twice. Then as soon as it was available on VOD, I had it. I own it. I’ve actually watched it several times, not related to Christmas, and we’re still supposed to watch it this Christmas. So yeah, it’s been an incredible ride.
That movie is so good. Everything from how it handles some of the backstory for Santa to what eventually leads us into the violence. Everything works. The entire story works, and it’s amazing.
There you go. Now you know. And if knowing is half the battle, you’re halfway to being a know-it-all yourself.
The Verdict
Violent Night gets a perfect 10 out of 10 on the Know-It-All Index.
That’s for its fresh take on the Christmas genre, its thrilling action, and a Santa like you’ve never seen before.
For one, I would love to see a prequel that dives into the backstory we were teased with.
